The Javadocs are a core part of the JDOM "spec" per the JCP, and as such
we should make sure they define class/method behavior beyond any
particular implementation.  Subclass behavior does seem like something
that should be the same regardless of impl, so I lean toward putting
appropriate notes in the Javadoc.
