[jdom-interest] XML files referenced with XML file.

I am trying to use a root XML file that uses entities to refer to sub XML
files.
Let's say I have root.xml that has an entity declaration that refers to a
sub XML file.
I get errors on the XML declaration about whitespacein the sub XML file
which doesn't make any sense . 
If I delete the XML declaration in the sub XML file, then 
I get an error  org.jdom.JDOMException: Error in building: org.jdom.Entity.
I read that entities are an open issue, so is there any way in JDOM
to use XML files within XML files?
