I agree, it definitely belongs in the FAQ, ideally with demo code. 
Noam, have you done this before?  Brett's post at
http://www.servlets.com/archive/servlet/ReadMsg?msgId=120272&listName=jdom-interest
has some starter code, although he's not 100% clear on how to return the
special input source.  If someone who's solved this before can send in
their code and a little explanation, I'm happy to add it to the FAQ.  If
the code is general purpose enough, we can check it in also.
