[jdom-interest] IOExceptions in build methods

Good point.  Downside is it'll break existing code, but personally I
think it's worth it.  I want to push hard to get the API frozen soon, so
people won't have lots of upgrade cycles and a few changes to hop onto
the 1.0 API is OK.

I'd be happy to take a patch if you're willing to make one.
