XPath-2.0 drags along XML-Schema and starts violating the 80/20 principal
as far as usefulness goes.

Uche Ogbuji and others started looking at revising XPath-1.0 to fix some
of the annoyances without going as far as W3C-XPath-2.0.  Activity seems
to have tapered off, so I'm not sure what's up these days.
