[jdom-interest] jdom versus xalan?

I noted that JDOM has an XSLT processor capability. Does this require XALAN or does JDOM have its own implementation of XSLT/transformer?
If it has its own implementation, how does it compare functionally to XALAN? I'm trying to start using XSLT, and we're alreadying using XERCES and JDOM for our XML processing, so I'd prefer to stick with JDOM for doing transforms if there's no penalty in doing so.
Thanks,
David
