[jdom-interest] Child / attribute checking

I'm just wondering if there is a easier way to check if Named Children /
Attributes exists than executing a try/catch statement? something line
(boolean)Element.childExists("<childname>") or
(boolean)Element.attributeExists("<attribute>")?
